First ever Management of Value course is a hit with international delegates
7 May 2011, Bournemouth, UK… CUPE Projects, the first training organization in the world to deliver Management of Value (MoV™) training, has held its first Foundation examination courses. The MoV guidance and qualification scheme was launched by OGC at the end of 2010. CUPE was the first organization to become an Accredited Training Organization for this qualification.
The courses in January and March attracted 20 delegates from 6 countries with private and public sector organizations represented.
David Roberts, Lead Trainer, CUPE, said, "All our delegates passed the Foundation examination at the end of the MoV course. They gave very positive feedback about the course and implementing the guidance in their organizations."
MoV was launched in November 2010 by David Pitchford, Executive Director, Major Projects Directorate, the Cabinet Office. He said: "The publication of the MoV guidance is very timely and will make a real difference to organizations that need to deliver increased benefits while cutting or saving costs."
Michael Dallas, lead author of the MoV guide, said MoV enhances competitiveness, productivity and profitability and helps organizations eliminate wasteful practices. "MoV provides a way to cut non essential projects and services. It’s about maximizing value in line with your objectives and key stakeholder requirements. It is not simply about minimizing costs, although it provides an extremely effective way to do this in a targeted and controlled manner," he said.
MoV describes value as the ratio between satisfaction of needs (benefits) and use of resources (expenditure). It enhances, rather than competes with, other management methods that seek to achieve value.
"The launch of MoV is timely as public service providers face the challenges posed by the Comprehensive Spending Review," Roberts said. "It is relevant to every type of public service from local and central government, healthcare and the emergency services. It is also applicable to the private sector to improve competitiveness. Delegates found the course extremely useful and worthwhile," Roberts said.
CUPE has announced that it has now won a contract with The Government of Malta for briefing and training on MoV in April 2011. "We are looking forward to helping the Maltese Government implement MoV best practice."
The MoV guidance can be used in conjunction with other best practice methods and is most effective when combined with project, programme and portfolio management methods. The new training initiative is administered by APMG, the OGC's official accreditation organization and examiner for Portfolio, Programme and Project Management products.
